Our Journey

The birth of ATS Travel, formerly known as African Touch Safaris, began in 1998 in the bustling city of Nairobi, fueled by the promise of creating a better future for a young Kenyan family.

Operating out of a makeshift Mabati office on a shoestring budget, we embarked on this journey driven solely by determination, despite lacking prior experience and resources.

Our first hire, a passionate young lady studying tourism, laid the groundwork for what would grow into ATS Travel.

The Beginning

The excitement of starting a business quickly met the harsh realities of entrepreneurship. Business was slow, and without an online presence, we relied heavily on brokers for clients. After six months, it became clear that our location was a barrier. Seeking visibility, we boldly sublet a desk in a more central area on Kenyatta Avenue, hoping for a breakthrough.

The Challenges

Despite our efforts, hope flickered as months passed with little progress. We relocated to a promising spot at Protection House on Parliament Road and even put up a sign to attract more customers. Just when we contemplated closing the business during a family meeting, our eldest daughter sparked inspiration. She suggested that one of us should run the company full-time, believing a personal touch could turn things around.

With my husband’s job providing our main source of income, the responsibility fell to me. Leaving my teaching career felt risky, but it was our last hope—a chance to redefine our family's future and instill the value of perseverance in our children.

Stepping into this new role was more than just keeping the business afloat, it was an opportunity to shape our lives. Little did I know, this leap would transform ATS Travel and instill invaluable lessons about courage, family, and resilience.

The Pivot

During this challenging time, we made a pivotal decision to focus on group travel, specifically targeting schools, religious groups, and business clubs from major banks. This innovative approach not only boosted our business but also established ATS Travel as a trusted partner in the community, catering to diverse needs and preferences.

The Evolution

Over the years, ATS Travel has evolved from a tours and safaris company into an award-winning travel management company, proudly carrying the torch of our rich heritage. Today, we stand tall with four offices and a dedicated team of about 60 employees, each contributing to our mission. Our journey of 27 years has been marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence, allowing us to build a solid reputation based on the promises we keep.
